A guy in Michigan slaughtered his family & torched the house b4 offing himself. I think such incidents may become more common as Amerikkka continues to decline.
Then there's the endless stories about kids getting shafted by the sick-care system. Amerikkka really doesn't care about its kids, despite claims 2 the contrary
Tulsi von Schmulsi is getting pounded for her abysmal failure as head of Intelligence. Wh/is, of course, a gd thing, since she still refuses to clarify the major tenets of Tulsism. The surprising thing is that the following people have not come to her defense:
Nikki von Schmikki
Blinken von Schminken
Sarah Palin
Michele Bachmann
Pam Bondi
Melania von Douchebag
and of course, Gisele Bundchen.
The world is waiting for them to speak up. I for one am eager to see what these cutting-edge intellects have to say.
Maury, surely NBC Now is an exemplary source of news. They have an understated way of reporting news stories that are virtually allegories of the State of the (Dis-)Union as the following saga of the Canoeist and the Reflecting Pool (guess what it really reflects) demostrates: https://apple.news/AW2CfQnmtTz6_JU2Wt267Ng
BTW: Is tomorrow your 82nd birthday. Now that's a newsworthy story! Congratulations and Happy Birrhday. Your writing has meant so much to me these past decades.
Link didn't work. As for Americans, if you understand that 98+% of them are buffoons, you don't really need much more in the way of political analysis.

Be sure to send messages to top of the pile, thank you. Yes, I do love buffoons. I can't get enuf of them.

ps: here are 2 great examples of American buffoonage:
There's a recent article in the Financial Times from an Indian-Amerikkkan who made comparisons between Norway's solidarity ethos vs Amerikkka's go-getter one. Unpaywalled version
"Please stay in Norway as we really don’t need you back in the USA."
Amerikkkans are always on the defensive when it comes to how much better life in other countries is. Maybe it's 'cause their ultra-competitive, dog-eat-dog model has failed countless folks
He's not a nice guy. He's an ass-kisser and self-promoter, and his personal history is nothing to be proud of. Of course, this profile fits most of the folks who have influence and visibility, but Brooks is certainly up there in terms of shmuckery. One of the great douchebags of late-empire history.
I've wondered if David Brooks was hired to purposely "dumb down" readers. I'm sorry, that sounds so rude, I'm sure he's a nice guy. But it baffles the mind how his essays keep getting printed. Thanks for the article M. I'm not a Trump basher like you, but I agree with everything else you're saying.
Great blog post. I think it sums up the state of intelligence in America pretty well these days. I wrote this blog post six years ago. You might find it interesting "In Search of Stupid People", https://agingcapriciously.com/2020/04/03/in-search-of-stupid-people/ No ads, no paywalls and no copyrights.
Many yrs ago there was an article in the newspaper abt an argument that broke out in a post office, somewhere in the US. A customer was trying to mail something to New Mexico. The postal worker (not Newman) told him that he must mean Mexico, since New Mexico was a foreign country. Stories like this can be multiplied ad infinitum.
Earlier this year, I visited a famous bar in my state and the bartender, a kid in his mid-twenties, pointed out the ornate, hand-carved wooden features of the back bar. He mentioned that the back bar was a hundred years old and wondered aloud in what year it would have been created. He pulled out his phone, opened the calculator app, and proceeded to enter 2026 minus 100. “Oh,” he exclaimed, “It was made in 1926.”
The only societies that don't display that pattern are hunter-gatherer ones, which were sustainable for many millennia. (Check out Wandering God)
Just in case you don't know: the Twilight book was the first of a trilogy on the collapse of the American empire. (Dark Ages America, Why America Failed)
I actually followed you through the whole trilogy. Just grabbed Thinking Otherwise on Kindle. It's all kind of resonated with me over the years. People like you have certainly done a good job mentally preparing those willing to at least consider your messages. These days I accept the huge tides and choose fascination (along with sadness) at it all. We just dont seem to have the genetics to get ourselves out of this funk.
